Snyder Construction Group Partners With Missouri State University to Build Agricultural Magnet School
Snyder Construction Group is proud to partner with Missouri State University to build an agricultural magnet school near the Darr Agricultural Center on South Kansas Expressway in Springfield, Missouri.
Slated to open in spring 2022, the new magnet school for Springfield Public Schools will create a dedicated space and hands-on experience for students interested in agricultural careers. The building will house up to 150 students in grades four through six.
Missouri State will own the school building, and Springfield Public Schools will provide teachers, curriculum, and other educational supplies. Students will be randomly selected to attend the agricultural academy through an application and lottery drawing process, according to Missouri State University.
The overall goal is to provide a way to foster students with an interest in agriculture, a vital part of the economy in Missouri and the United States. As the country’s population grows, fewer young people are going into agriculture as a career.
The new magnet school aims to foster kids’ love of all aspects of agriculture. The building sits on the William H. Darr Agricultural Center campus, 2401 S. Kansas Expressway. It will consist of a laboratory and field experience classroom where students can study livestock, equine management, horticulture, agronomy, animal science, wildlife management, and conservation.
The building will have classroom space, a greenhouse, garden, and demonstration kitchen.
The project is approximately 15,137 square feet.
Snyder Construction Group serves as the general contractor, while Arkifex Studios LLC is the architect. Engineers are Olsson Inc., civil; J&M Engineering LLC, structural; and Interpres Building Solutions LLC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
